Summary

The King County Water Taxi will suspend all service for up to one week starting Monday, Aug. 7 as the downtown Seattle terminal is relocated to accommodate construction of a new terminal.

Story

During the closure, the downtown Seattle terminal will be relocated from the south side of Colman Dock/Pier 50 to the north side. When service resumes, both Water Taxi routes will use this temporary site through fall 2018 while we build a new terminal on our old site.

The new terminal, when it’s finished, will also serve the new Kitsap Fast Ferries service. It’s part of a larger project by the state to renovate Colman Dock.

How to get around without Water Taxi

While service is suspended,  riders are encouraged to use one or more of the following options:

• Buses: Metro’s Rapid Ride C Line and routes 21, 37, 55, 56, 57, 120, and 125 connect West Seattle to downtown Seattle. Route 116 connects the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal to downtown Seattle. To accommodate extra passengers while the Water Taxi isn’t running, Metro will provide added service on these routes during the closure. Also, Water Taxi shuttle routes 773 and 775 will continue to run on their regular schedules during the closure, connecting West Seattle riders to the West Seattle Junction and Alki Beach. • Light rail: Metro Route 50 connects West Seattle to Link light rail at the SODO Station.

• Telecommuting and alternate work schedules:  If your employer allows you to work from home or flex your schedule to avoid peak commute times, you can both bypass and help reduce crowding on buses while the Water Taxi is out of service.

   

• Ride sharing: Learn about Carpool, VanPool, and other ride-sharing options at www.kingcounty.gov/metro/rideshare or contact your employer.

When will the Water Taxi be back?

The exact date and time depend on construction. Once we know, we’ll announce them via our service alerts, on our website (www.kingcounty.gov/watertaxi), and on our Instagram feed. We’ll also inform media in our service areas. You can subscribe to Water Taxi service alerts on our website.

New sailing schedule for West Seattle

When the Water Taxi resumes service after its move to the north side of Colman Dock, the West Seattle route will be on a new schedule. This will reflect the extra time it takes to board and de-board a growing number of West Seattle riders, and extra time needed because our route will now cross that of Washington State Ferries arriving and departing from Colman Dock
